The sunken living room is cool for sure . . . but I HATE the weird half wall / bar nook thing coming from the kitchen. Kyle loves it. Waste of space IMO.

How can we take that out, leave the structural beam and expand the stairs to be able to walk down from either direction?

And WTF is the weird space with the half wall and bars above the living room? It’s built on concrete and houses power so we are very limited with what we can do. The beams used to be beautiful raw wood. We are going to try to get at least the big ones back to that, paint the ceiling in between the beams white to brighten it up.

There are no lights in the living room at all right now. We have some ideas . . . We plan to either turn the dining room windows into french doors or somehow push that room out and have a sunroom / outdoor grill area - something to take advantage of the mountain views and make more hangout space.
